Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player secured his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first championship since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, took control to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
